Jerry,
I haven't paid much attention to blurriness on Animoto shows. I can understand your 1080p complaint for sure. Both 720 and 1080 are technically HD if I remember correctly, but 1080 is "more HD" =)

I just started using Animoto and am not impressed with the "High Def" image quality. What you get is not high def, it is 720p. Animoto has a reputation for producing blurry out of focus slide shows which I can certainly attest to! I will be cancelling my membership at the end of the month. The control available with ProShow Web and the ability to use it with Smugmug make it a much better deal, I hope they make 1080p available soon!

Michelle,
I really don't do themed videos much. Have you found yourself using them frequently?
BMI is new to me. Is it a way to license music or is it something for website design?

After reserching the 'ProShow Web' offerings yesterday, I'm going to go with the 'premium' package since it's unbranded. It's the best bang for the buck at $25/month or $150/year for me starting out. Animoto's same offering, called 'Pro', is $39/month or $250/year. However, a couple of the Animoto animations are quite nice ('flower vine') and I see nothing similar in the ProShow themes, so if business picks up, I may still go back and buy a Pro membership just to have access to the few themes that I do like. Anyway, thanks for the heads up on 'Triple Scoop'...pricey but nice selection. :) Just curious, have you ever looked into the BMI website license (1.75% x business revenue)? The agreement looks scary, but I was just wondering if it's worth doing/or accommodating for? I just don't know if I'm going to get a lot of photo video requests where folks want me to use licensed songs?

Michelle,
I COMPLETELY agree with you. Animoto drives me nuts because I can't tweak things. At this point, I'm still using Animoto for slideshows, but if Proshow can polish their slideshows a little, I think I'll be switching over.

I just found your post via Google search as I, too, have been trying out Animoto (bought a month's Pro trail at $39) and have been frustrated with the lack of control. I'm just branching out into video creation as a side business, and Animoto was recommended. I am an experienced PowerPoint slideshow user, so I'm use to having the ability to tweak things...like adding specific transitions between slides, adding multiple songs, having plenty of slide space to type text, etc. Animoto is SO lacking in these areas. My business goal is to create video slideshows for events/celebrations, etc., so I'm hoping ProShow can help. So, thanks for the info!

Dev,
With Animoto Plus or Pro, you should be able to download the mp4 or a DVD iso image that you can burn to DVD with a program like Nero. Do you have a paid account for Animoto, or did you purchase a single video (I'm not really sure how that works)? The big problem that I was running into was that I had multiple sections for a DVD, so an ISO for only one of the sections did me no good, and I ended up having to create a new "movie" in Adobe Premiere that combined all the mp4's into a single DVD.

Thanks again for stopping by and commenting!

This is awesome TJ! And I was thinking the same thing about Animoto. There just seemed to be something lacking. I made a nice slide show (not a free one)of baby Jillian, and really would like to have it on DVD. The only way I can ever view it is to go to that site, its just not convenient.
Thanks for the info here, and again well done.
